The Simpsons: Hit and Run Review
by Disturbed Icon

Introduction: Well, many people have been waiting for an at least ''good'' Simpsons game. Fans of the series have gone through the garbage constantly for what seems to be forever. However, the wait for the defining game, which finally gives The Simpsons due credit has come in the form of Hit & Run. In a game where The Simpsons television series manifests itself with the style of the famed Grand Theft Auto series, who can lose? When you play the game, whether you're a fan of the Simpsons are just looking to kill some time for fun, there's no doubt The Simpsons: Hit & Run will please you.

Gameplay: The most important part of the game, as well as probably the best. Where the former games in the Simpsons series have always tried to capture the essence of already popular games have failed, Hit & Run succeeds with ease. Taking pretty much the same gaming formula as the PS2 hits GTA 3 and GTA: Vice City, adding that to the comic genius of the Simpsons gives you a great time. You'll find the controls very easy to begin with. Simple things like hitting A twice to do a double jump are very hepful. Driving depends on the car, as some cars don't handle as well as others. Not to much of a problem. Many should also find the games missions simple and easy to do, with very easy instructions given. If you're not in the mood to do missions, you can explore the locales of the Simpsons, and do nearly whatever you want. You can beat up the people on the street, get into cars that are simply passing by... And of course, run people over. Watch out for the meter to the bottom right of your screen, unless you want to end up in a high speed chase with Springfields ''best''. Overall, there is nothing wrong with Hit & Runs' gameplay, not to mention the added fun of being able to play as quite a few characters. (Homer, Lisa and Bart to name some...)

Story: Not wanting to give away too much, I'll keep this short. When you open up in the game, it seems that Springfield is over-run with bee's who carry cameras, watching everyone in Springfield. Also, there appear to be strange black pizza delivery vans everywhere as well. Your job is to pretty much get to the bottom of this. The story evolves nicely, as you yourself will or have seen. Another area of this game done very well.

Graphics: The transition from 2D to 3D is odd, however you'll get used to it quickly and grow to love the cartoony-3d look Hit & Run offers. When you take time to explore Springfield, while trying to avoid hitting our friends on the sidewalks ;), you'll find very familiar places from the television series. Not only that, but for the most part the enviroment is done quite nicely, and the game runs very smoothly. Detail in character isn't of the highest quality, but then again, The Simpsons are the Simpsons after all, and it doesn't take much detail to impress with how nicely the game came out.

Sound: Possibly could have been a 10 in my book, however a sometimes annoying soundtrack can truly get on ones nerves. Aside from that, the sounds in the game are done excellently. The voice acting, which includes everyone from the shows cast, is done to perfection. It could be the great dialogue when taking missions, or the simple one line jokes each character, you'll fall in love with the game. The great thing is, even random people on the street who you can kick and punch also have their own humerous lines, adding to the atmosphere of an already excellent game.

Replayability: There are many, many things to be done in the game aside from the main story missions. There's the collecting of cars, doing each characters gags, collecting cards, different clothing for each character as well as a few other things to do. You might not get 100% for each character your first time through, so going back for another round, maybe a third and fourth round you'll certainly get your moneys worth.

Overall: Overall, The Simpsons: Hit & Run mixes two great formulas for probably the greatest Simpsons game. Offering solid and very fun gameplay and comic relief among other things, Hit & Run repersents the Simpsons series excellently, finally giving the fans of the series a game truly worth your time and money.
