Garnet is the princess of Alexandria. Her only living relatives are her mother (the queen) and her uncle Cid (the Regent of Lindblum). Garnet has never really stepped outside her castle walls or for that matter been anywhere on her own accord or without adult supervision. So naturally she is going to be curious, and that curiosity leads to actions, which in her case is trying to run away from home. So when Zidane and his crew come to town, with their plan, this is where the main story picks up.
