Red,or should I say Nanaki which is his real name. Hojo gave him the name Red XIII because he is a Red, and his 13th specimen. He meets the team when Hojo wishes to breed Red and Aeris as they are both last of their species. Don't ask how. But anyways little is known about Red XIII at first until later on in the game when you stumble onto his home town and meet his grandfather.
